Jesus Lives!!! It All Began With God!
1 Peter 3:15- "...Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect."
John 1:1-3- "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made."
It All Began With God!
Our Creator God has a very special message for all of His children. Our theme for the upcoming year is “It All Began With God.” Our thematic Bible verse comes from 1 Peter 3:15 where he tells us, “...Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.” Our Creator makes it very simple for His believing people to give that answer. We have a loving God that not only creates and sustains, but also gives eternal life through the saving blood of Christ Jesus!
Our Creator God gives us life and continues to do so knowing that everytime He breathes the breath of life in us every one of us will be tainted with sin. Many people have wondered… “Why then would God create the world in the first place if He knew that we would botch it up immediately? Why wouldn’t He just scrap the whole thing and never bring us into this sin filled world?” Well, the answer to these questions is very simple. God’s love is so amazing that though we destroyed his beautiful creation He chose to bring us into it anyway. Living as a created child of God in this sinful world is not punishment for us, but rather an amazing opportunity and blessing that we have to share His message of love and peace. God wants nothing more than for all of His creation to live with him in heaven for all eternity!
God sustains us in our lives daily! This is quite amazing as we witness God’s love for all people through His ability to keep us alive, both believer and unbeliever, as we live out our time of grace here on this earth. God sustains us by blessing us with families, food, shelter, friends, clothing, and the like. Yes, He gives us employment and education so that we can become useful citizens on this earth but also ambassadors of His Word through our time of grace. Thank You Lord for providing everything that we need for our daily life and also preparing us for the work that You give us now and later in life. As teachers at Shepherd Lutheran we understand the importance of both preparing students for their lives as productive citizens, but more importantly preparing them for the life of spreading Christ crucified to all nations and furthermore preparing them for their eternal life in heaven.
Lastly, Christ Jesus is our Savior! Through the Word of God He has blessed us with His overpowering love by giving up his Son for those who deserve nothing but hell. One thing to really pay attention to is the fact that this was God’s plan from the beginning. He wasn’t surprised by this plan of action, but instead created all things and all people knowing that He would one day need to give His one and only Son, Jesus, to death on a cross. A death that would include taking on all of the punishment of hell for all people of all time. This punishment is something that no one can fully understand because we have no concept of what perfect love is for one another. The only way we can see this perfect love in action is by seeing our Savior shed his blood for all the world and then rise victorious from the grave to fulfill all Scripture.
This year we will be focusing on our eternal God who has no beginning or end. The students will grow in their faith knowing the reason for the hope that they have for heaven. Our students will focus their attention on God’s Son, the eternal Son, as He was there from the beginning with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit. John 1:1-3, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.” Christ was not created like us, but instead is God and shows incredible love to us because of His sacrifice.
As students become more and more familiar with the sinfulness of those around them, our theme will serve as wonderful comfort for them. They will know that Jesus Lives from the beginning and continues to be seated at the right hand of the Father in heaven. He promises to be with us every step of the way throughout our lives. Isaiah 41:10, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am you God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
“Jesus Lives!!!” will continue to be our overriding theme throughout every school year, and rightfully so, due to the fact that our entire faith is based on those two words. Without Christ’s death and resurrection we would find no hope in the eternal life that the Holy Spirit freely gives to us. Therefore, we teach these young lambs because Jesus Lives!!! Because Jesus Lives, we have the motivation to treat others with love and respect. Because Jesus Lives, we see our education as something that will enhance our ability to preach the Word to others. Because Jesus Lives, my hope of salvation is not a wavering earthly hope, but instead a sure hope of eternal life with Christ in heaven!
I pray that through this upcoming school year God will continue to bless all of our students and teachers through the preaching and teaching of His Almighty Word. Jesus Lives!!! It All Began With God!
